Factors Influencing Mental health (Other (Not Listed) Sample) Content: Factors Influencing Mental healthNameCourse Mental health is a state of well-being in which individuals realize the potential in them, ability to cope with normal stress, work productively and fruitfully, as well as the ability to contribute to their society. Experts agree that mental health plays a significant role in the development of personality, and it is impossible to figure out development of human beings without sound mental health. Different factors have been stated to show what influences mental health; they include hereditary, psychosocial and socio-culturally. Genetic Factors Heredity is the foundation that helps in shaping human personality. Genetics influences mental health through biological inheritance of defective genes. For instance, individuals with psychiatric illness such as panic disorders and phobia had blood relatives who were phobic (Kendler, etal., 1995). Individuals who inherit these conditions are unable to function normally. For examp le, defective genes can cause hormonal imbalances in the body, such as the secretion of large amounts of adrenaline, which causes people to be easily frightened. Psychosocial Factors Psychosocial factors involve personal experiences and social skills, which influence the way one interacts with people and behaves in social places. Personal experiences like rape can cause trauma, which in turn may make the victim to avoid people. For instance, a girl who was raped may avoid men later in life because she associates men with the rape experience. This mindset affects mental health by inhibiting ones social skills and ability to interact with people and form healthy social relationships (Shafer, 2009). Having poor social skills makes one to feel inadequate and develop low self-esteem, which in turn hinders people from functioning effectively in public places. Socio-cultural Factors Social cultural factors refer to the influence of family members and the environment in peoples personality (Kearney Trull, 2014).
